Supastars Academy . . . where dreams are made!

Supastars Academy opened on Sunday 23rd January with a fantastic free session where budding rock stars were able to meet, learn all about the academy, try our the gear and even have a jam together.

At Supastars Academy every Sunday during term time our students learn the essentials of playing in a band. They learn two instruments from guitar, bass, drums or vocals, tutored by our established and experienced facilitators. We also teach backing vocals and percussion.

There are a maximum of twelve students in each class to make sure each student gets plenty of one to one coaching but also enough friends around them to share inspiration, learning together, and from each other.

Then, they form bands, get a name, get their own style, learn some of their favorite songs, write some new songs of their own, tighten up and, once a term, perform in front of family and friends in our special showcase gig at a Colchester venue.

At Supastars Academy there are no exams to pass and everyone is welcome, whatever standard they are. Beginners are particularly encouraged. After all, we all started somewhere!

All our facilitators are seasoned professional rock and pop musicians who will share their extensive experience of gigging, touring and recording with our students. Having performed with names like Grand Theft Audio, Korvus, RealTV, Tenpole Tudor, Annie Lennox, Boy George and supported global stars like Green Day, ACDC, Linkin Park, The Levellers, Chumbawamba and many more.

We can honestly say our team have been there and done it!

Once a month we feature a session with an established musician or band. Maybe someone well know, maybe someone from the local circuit or a new musician finding their way. Students can listen, watch and ask questions. We’ll feature rock, pop, rap, R & B, blues, folk and jazz to give them plenty to think about. These special sessions will also include tips on songwriting and performance, recording, getting gigs, getting a record deal, touring, becoming a session musician and even how to deal with all that success!

We even provide instruments including electric guitars (6), bass guitars (6), electronic drums (4 +8 practice pads), a range of percussion and PA systems (4).

Supastars Academy is held every Sunday in term time at The Stanway School in the main hall and two music rooms. Fees are £20.00 per student per session, payable termly in advance.

We advise students to book early to avoid disappointment as spaces are limited.

Supastars Academy director and facilitator Stuart Hardy said:

Supastars Academy is the realization of a dream I have held for some time, to share the sheer excitement, pleasure and inspiration I have enjoyed from playing in bands over the years. There really is nothing else like it. At Supastars Academy we have assembled an amazing team of musicians to share their experiences of the music industry with young people in Colchester.”
