Hundreds of farmers across the country are already planning for this year’s Open Farm Sunday (12 June 2011) so make sure you don’t miss out. Organisers LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) are keen to remind farmers that there’s still time to register their event.
Open Farm Sunday helps the public discover and understand the story behind their food, and the dedication and skill of the farmers who produce it, while caring for the environment. Any farmers who wish to take part can register online now at www.farmsunday.org, where they will find lots of helpful information, advice and support, to help run an enjoyable and informative day.
This annual event is a must for anyone interested in how farmers produce our food and the ways they care for our countryside too. Visitors to Open Farm Sunday events will be able to discover the answers to many questions including:
Where your food really comes from?
How many jobs a farmer does every day?
What technology is used on a modern farm?
How many insects and birds there are on a farm?
How farmers play a vital role in caring for the countryside?
There are so many exciting things you and your family can do - from tractor and trailer rides, to farm walks and nature trails, and even discovering how worms are a farmer’s best friend. You might have the chance to see sheep being sheared, cows being milked or chicks hatching!
Each farm is different and LEAF’s Open Farm Sunday provides a great opportunity to experience REAL farming at first hand and to meet Britain’s famers.
12 June 2011 will be the sixth Open Farm Sunday and hundreds of farms across the country, from Cheshire to Cornwall, Flintshire to Fife and Norfolk to Northumberland, are expected to open.
