Description
About a mile north of Colchester Town centre, Highwoods Country Park covers 300 acres of attractive grassland, woodland, wetland and farmland. Various walks and trails provide the opportunity to spot a wide range of wildlife and are suited to different levels of ability/disability. Facilities include angling, a Visitor Centre and easy access trail.
From Colchester North Station roundabout follow the signs to Colchester General Hospital which take you up Turner Road. The entrance to the park is on your right as you drive up Turner Road.
Park open all the time
Visitor Centre open every day between 1st April - 30th September Monday - Saturday 10am - 4.30pm Sundays and Bank Holidays 11am - 5.30pm
Only at weekends only between 1st October - 30th March 10am - 4pm.
Public toilets attached to the Centre are open daily 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Walking There are excellent walks for al ages and abilities and the marked trail offers stunning views over Colchester and the surrounding countryside. More information and a free leaflet is available from the Visitor Centre. Health Walks led by a fully trained volunteer walk take place every other friday and sunday and start from the vistor centre. The walks vary in length from 0.3 miles to 2 miles and there is tea and coffee available afterwards.
Fishing
A well stocked and patrolled lake. Fishing is by ticket only. Day tickets can be bought from Radcliffes Fishing Tackle shop in the High Street (next to Williams and Griffin) Season Tickets can be purchased from the Council Offices. Please call 01206 282913 Closed seson 16th March - 15th June.
Cycling Most paths and tracks can be cycled except for the Easy Access Trail
