Register now for your chance to play at End of the Road Festival

Arts Council England has launched a competition to give unsigned bands the chance to represent their city and play at this year’s End of the Road Festival.

‘Most Musical City’ puts 10 cities from around the country to a public vote to find which is most musical – taking into account music heritage, inspiring venues and legendary musicians. The campaign has support from talented artists such as Richard Hawley backing Sheffield and Dave Rowntree representing Colchester. Each celebrity ambassador has put forward the case for their city to be crowned most musical.

End of the Road Festival organiser Simon Taffe said: “Supporting new acts is very important to us, and that’s not just out of a sense of musical conscience, but simply because they provide many of the festival’s most exciting musical moments. This year we’ve booked some of our favourite bands of all time – Mercury Rev, Calexico and Dirty Three to name a few – and seeing them will be a dream come true… but being completely blown away by a rising star who’s never played a festival before, that’s really what it’s all about.”

Bands can register via www.mostmusicalcity.co.uk. By registering and specifying which city they represent, artists automatically enter the competition to play at the End of the Road Festival. Public voting to find the Most Musical City continues until 30 May.

Mary-Alice Stack, Development Manager, Arts Council England, said: “This is a great opportunity for unsigned acts to play at a major music festival and get excellent publicity for their band. We’ll select three acts to perform at the festival from entries received through the Most Musical City MySpace page. Two of these will represent the top two winning cities and the third category is a ‘wild card’ choice from our judges – so everyone is in with a chance, no matter which city they choose to represent.”

The ten cities that bands can represent are: Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Colchester, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield.
