Bonfire Night and Fireworks Displays
Here you will find details of Fireworks displays happening in Colchester. But first a little history...
Guy Fawkes Night
takes place on 5th November. Also known as Bonfire Night
or Fireworks Night
, the event's history dates back to 5th November 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot was arrested whilst guarding gunpowder explosives that had been placed in the cellar of the Houses of Parliment in attempt to kill King James I and Members of Parliment. On that evening of 5th November, with the plot foiled, Bonfires were lit all over London to celebrate the King's safety and since then the 5th November has been known as Bonfire Night and celebrated each year with Bonfires, burning of the "Guy" and Fireworks.
