If Gas and Electric Bills weren't high enough, prices are set to rise further with British Gas announcing huge price increases.  British Gas, is raising gas bills by 35% and electric 9% and average dual fuel prices will rise by 25%.

Centrica, the company that owns British Gas have also annouced record profits of 992 million pounds in the 6 months to 30 June 2008.  Although the company still cited record high oil prices, falling gas reserves in Britian and increased global demand as the reason for increased domestic energy costs.

It may still be possible to secure a fixed or capped tarrif if you want the security of knowing your energy costs won't go up.  But energy providers are withdrawing these fast so you'll need to be quick.  Npower and Scottish Power have both pulled their fixed energy deals so consumers wanting to protect themselves from further gas and electricity price rises need to act now as the remaining fixed and capped products aren’t likely to be around for much longer.

The easiest way to see if you can save money on your fuel bills is to use a free comparison service plus you may receive cashback or freebies on top

Average costs are only a guideline as the price you pay for gas and electricity depends on your usage and also where in the country you live.
