Hundreds of farmers across the country are opening their farms for this year’s Open Farm Sunday so make sure you don’t miss out.

Open Farm Sunday helps the public discover and understand the story behind their food, and the dedication and skill of the farmers who produce it, while caring for the environment.

This annual event is a must for anyone interested in how farmers produce our food and the ways they care for our countryside too. Visitors to Open Farm Sunday events will be able to discover the answers to many questions including:

Where your food really comes from?

How many jobs a farmer does every day?

What technology is used on a modern farm?

How many insects and birds there are on a farm?

How farmers play a vital role in caring for the countryside?

There are so many exciting things you and your family can do - from tractor and trailer rides, to farm walks and nature trails, and even discovering how worms are a farmer’s best friend. You might have the chance to see sheep being sheared, cows being milked or chicks hatching!

Each farm is different and LEAF’s Open Farm Sunday provides a great opportunity to experience REAL farming at first hand and to meet Britain’s famers.

Farms in the Colchester area taking part are:

Lower Dairy Farm
The Taylor family of Lower Dairy Farm in Little Horkesley, are inviting you to come and discover life on their farm. Explore the farm on a self-guided walk with views across the Stour Valley. Along the way learn more about the crops, animals, and history of this very special area. Then join us in the barn and treat yourself to a slice of homemade cake!
